I mean it’s understandable. They’re both black Nissans at the end of the day.

As our population becomes older and older, shit like this will increase.

In the article. The Infiniti’s owner—also elderly— had accidentally left his e fob in the car.

Well, I mean, it’s in the same family. Honest mistake, right?

Yeah... totally. You body deteriorates with age, brain included. Not to mention possible dementia
Luckily experience and wisdom can help compensate for that... to a certain extent.

And yet another reason I don’t like the idea of wireless key fobs starting cars (aside from people just being able to read them out of the airwaves and then steal cars with their codes...)
![]() 07/11/2018 at 12:31 |

She didn’t notice cause they’re equally garbage.
(I don’t actually know if the QX is, but the Sentra is)

Was her plan to go to every black car in the lot until one worked? How do you not notice a difference at all?

Back in the 80s
, there was a story where two identical Crown Vic
LTDs got parked at one of the malls in Halifax. This was back in the key era- and in addition to being the same color, the keys were close enough that they could unlock & start both cars. One family was about to leave for vacation to BC - they made it, but in the wrong car...

Back in the early 70s when they were everywhere my grandma had a white VW Bug. She came out of the store to find another white Bug parked next to her, thought that’s funny! Unlocked her car, started it and drove off. 5 minutes down the road she noticed something was a little off and quickly realized someone else’s things were in *her* car! It dawned on her what might’ve happened so she quickly drove back to the store to find a man confusedly sitting in the other Bug looking around trying to figure out who had replaced his random collection of car clutter with somebody else’s random collection of car clutter . Sure enough, their keys were exact matches so they traded back and each drove home in the correct white VW.
(This happened when she was middle-aged, so not an old lady thing just a funny story)

I have a hard time calling it “Stealing” if the keys were left in it.

I like the caption to the lead image.
Vehicles are seen in a parking lot in Oshawa.
#1, that’s the lot at the Oshawa GM plant.
#2, That’s the closest thing you could get to “Cornwall Parking Lot”?
#3, Why did you even need a picture beyond “Parking Lot”...
Also, who rents a car to go shopping at a store 4 minutes away WTF YO
EDIT: NVM, missed the “Two Weeks” part

Someone who needs it for the rest of the 2 weeks they used it?

Yeah I missed that part. Edited, but you were too quck :)

I mean this could have happened with keys too. And wouldn’t have happened if the Infinity driver hadn’t left his fob in the car (and presumably left it unlocked?)

Well done, old lady.

Hard to believe..
I would accept it if she returned it like this;

50% of the population over 80 has some degree of dementia. That's the future we have to look forward to, if we're lucky to live long enough.
![]() 07/11/2018 at 13:18 |

Far less likely with keys...a Sentra key isn’t going to fit into an Infiniti ignition / doors and function.

Even worse, apparently she's got a record. In 1979, she kept some guy's Mercedes 300D for a month, claiming it was her Grenada.

you bastard, i read the article again, and not even a mention of her name, so that’s when i was wondering where did he see that.
![]() 07/11/2018 at 13:52 |

He’s referencing Ford’s advertising for the Grenada, which seriously compared it to a Mercedes. I’m at school, so I can’t upload a pic, but if you google Ford Grenada advertising, you’ll find it.

Back in high school (20 years ago), I had three friends with K-car based Mopars. All of their keys worked in each other’s cars. Hi jinks e nsued.

In “national security” ‘Murica, that lady would be recovering from her arrest or dead due to excessive force by police.

There you go. Pretty hilarious.
There’s no freaking way ANYBODY really bought both, unless Ford offered to GIVE a few to existing Mercedes owners. Or maybe the rich parents bought their kids a Grenada in the same bizzare way some of the rich kids I went to high school with that were given Cavaliers when they were 16, because somehow giving them a cheap shitty car “teaches them responsibility.”

I don't know, I mean, they do look a lot alike - they're the same color and have the exact same number of doors and wheels.

At one time, I think Honda only had a handful of key patterns, there was like a 1 in 20 chance a Honda key would work i n any other Honda.

I’ve heard that. My friends couldn’t afford beater Hondas. Beater K-cars wer e nearly free in the late 90's. Beater Hondas still fetched a couple G's.
